Position Yourself for Success

As 2024 draws to a close, the novelty of resolutions has faded. With each new year, we grant ourselves a fresh start, a proverbial "do-over," an opportunity to turn over a new leaf and evolve into better versions of ourselves. However, we can begin any time of year and today is as good of a day as any to start. But the question remains: where do we begin?

Are you looking for a complete transformation in your life or just seeking to make some minor adjustments?

Your resolution, or desired change doesn't need to be grand. The idea of a "do-over" can be applied to any aspect of your life that you believe requires enhancement. Whatever changes you wish to make, write them down on paper. Consider this list as your personal improvement wish list. It is essential to have a clear idea of what you want to modify, so try to be as specific as possible. Many individuals express desires such as "I want to lose weight," "I want to be happy," "I want to be healthier," or "I want to be more organized." While these are admirable resolutions, they may be too broad.

Create a detailed list.

Individuals who establish clear and achievable steps towards reaching their objectives are more likely to achieve success compared to those who do not. While it's commendable to aspire to lose weight or increase happiness, it's crucial to devise a plan for achieving these goals. Goals should have a defined endpoint, allowing for the creation of new objectives upon completion. Rather than simply stating a desire to lose weight, specify actionable steps such as adopting a healthier diet and increasing exercise frequency. Similarly, instead of aiming to be happier, identify activities that bring joy, like enrolling in an art class or learning to play a musical instrument. These concrete actions represent measurable progress towards accomplishing your goals.

Be practical and make plans accordingly.

One common explanation for failing to stick to our resolutions is that we tend to invest a great deal of energy into them initially, only to see that energy dissipate over time. It's unrealistic to expect to shed 35 pounds within the first few weeks of starting a new exercise or healthier eating routine, so it's more practical to aim for losing a smaller amount. Similarly, trying to organize your entire home in just a couple of days is not feasible. Instead, concentrate on tackling one room at a time. By breaking down your main goal into smaller, more manageable objectives, you can avoid feeling overwhelmed.

Create a vision board.

The concept of the Law of Attraction suggests that focusing on your desires and visualizing achieving them can lead to success. Instead of dwelling on what you don't want, concentrate on what you do want. Spend a day creating a vision board displaying the goals you aspire to accomplish. Include words, images, and phrases that motivate you to keep your goals in mind. For instance, if you dream of visiting Hawaii, place a picture of Hawaii on your vision board. By connecting your intentions and emotions to the board, you can stay motivated and on track. Display your vision board prominently, such as on your refrigerator or near your desk. Each time you see it, your subconscious will be reminded of your goals, reinforcing your determination.

Assess what benefits and what does not benefit you in this life.

Get rid of negative relationships, toxic attitudes, habits, and behaviors and substitute them with positive alternatives. Your surroundings influence your energy, so aim for positivity in this aspect. This could mean letting go of a toxic friend who brings you down or avoiding foods that cause heartburn. Surround yourself with uplifting individuals and thoughts. Once more, the Law of Attraction is at play here.

Release the past.

Regardless of your past actions or experiences, you now have the opportunity for a fresh start! Instead of dwelling on the past, focus on moving forward. Embrace today as a new beginning, a chance for a fresh perspective!

Remember to be kind to yourself.

At times, we may falter and stray from our path. It's important not to criticize yourself harshly or abandon your efforts just because you've had a rough day. Often, we are our own harshest critics when we make mistakes. Instead, try to adopt a mindset of taking small steps and maintaining a positive attitude, akin to how a baby learns to walk. Have you ever observed a baby learning to walk? They stand up, take a few steps, stumble, but then promptly rise again. Imagine if the baby thought, "I'm so inept. I can't do this! I'll never try again!" - the baby would never learn to walk. Fortunately, babies are not wired to give up easily. Embrace that same resilient spirit and persevere through any challenges that come your way. If necessary, revisit step six. Remember, you have the power to shape the person you want to become. Seize this opportunity for a fresh start and strive to become a better version of yourself!
