When the Scroll Feels “Off”: Discerning Energetic Misalignment in the Healing Arts

How to honor your intuition, reclaim your clarity, and stay rooted in integrity when online spaces get noisy.

Have you ever been scrolling through social media, only to feel a strange, subtle “ick” rise in your body as you read someone’s post?

Maybe it’s a colleague or peer in the Healing Arts, sharing a deeply personal story—but something about it feels… off. Not necessarily fake, but not fully true either. Like it’s been polished into a performance. Or perhaps it’s someone marketing their latest offering wrapped in spiritual jargon, but the frequency underneath reads more like manipulation than medicine.

You feel it in your body. You sense it in your gut. Something doesn’t match.

If this experience feels familiar—you’re not alone.

Many somatic practitioners, energy workers, therapists, and embodied leaders are noticing this increasing incongruence online: when sacred work is turned into branded personas, and when genuine connection gives way to curated guru-vibes and sales funnels disguised as soul-sharing.

We’re not here to judge others for how they market or grow their platforms. But it’s important to name the discomfort when it arises—and even more important to trust it.

That “yuck” feeling you get? That’s your intuition noticing misalignment. It doesn’t mean you’re cynical. It means you’re awake.

Why It Feels So Off

  • Energetic Misalignment: When the soul of the message doesn’t match the energy behind it, your nervous system can feel the dissonance.

  • Authenticity Performed, Not Lived: Some are taught to share vulnerability in service of sales. The content may sound personal, but it lacks true presence.

  • False Hierarchies: When someone’s growing following creates a sense of inflated authority, it can distort the sacredness of shared healing work.

  • Projection at Play: Sometimes, what feels uncomfortable also mirrors our own desires—to be seen, validated, or successful—without selling our soul.

You’re Not Being Judgmental—You’re Discernment-Literate

This isn’t about being better than, or calling others out. It’s about calling yourself back in. To your own truth. To the sacredness of your work. To the integrity you hold quietly while others play louder games.

Instead of spiraling in frustration, here’s a way to ground and clear:

Mini Clearing Ritual: "Reclaim the Frequency"

You’ll need:

  • A glass of water

  • A candle

  • A moment of honest stillness

Steps:

  1. Light the candle and name what you’re releasing: "I release all energetic residue from witnessing inauthentic or distorted expressions of sacred work.”

  2. Hold the water and speak into it: "I reclaim my clarity, my groundedness, and my trust in my own path.”

  3. Drink the water slowly, with presence.

  4. Blow out the candle, signaling the completion of this moment. The light returns to you.

Journal Prompts: Recenter Your Compass

“What values anchor my work in the world, even when others are louder, flashier, or seemingly more ‘successful’?”
“What does authentic expression feel like in my body? How do I know when I’m in alignment?”
“What boundaries or practices help me stay in integrity without shrinking or performing?”

You don’t need to perform purity, nor should you bypass the discomfort. Just return to your center.

You’re not here to sell yourself as a brand. You’re here to be yourself as a blessing.

And the ones who feel that? They’re listening. Even if they’re not clapping yet.
